My purpose of breeding Portuguese

Podengo Pequenos is to produce healthy dogs while

conserving the original breed function – that of a “rabbit

hound”

I strive to produce purebred dogs that will be a specific

size, shape, color, health and temperament. You

should be able to look across a room and recognize a

breed. Not say is that a Rat Terrier or a Portuguese

Podengo Pequeno?

To produce such animals you have to breed with

desirable traits and stay away from undesirable or

unpreferred .

The purpose of the breed is very important when

breeding dogs. The standard and the reasons behind

it are also extremely important. What is the purpose of

a Portuguese Podengo Pequeno?

Why are the colors of the dogs important?

Why is temperament important?

Even as small as why is the tail shape is important.

Every part of the Standard was carefully thought out in

the country of origin long before the Americans found

the breed.

I believe that dog shows are for evaluating breeding

stock even if you are not a breeder your dog is

representing its breeder as well as its breed.
